New Year, New Job

I will be starting 2013 with a new job. HALLELUJAH.

In the last episode I was venting about finding a job that was the right fit for me. I had just gone on an interview and was waiting for my 2nd interview. My 2nd interview was great. About an hour after I left the lady called me to tell me that she absolutely loved me, was very impressed with me, hoped to collaborate on a research project with me but gave the job to the other candidate solely because she was internal and had familiarity with their program. I was of course very disappointed. I felt like I had been on a bunch of promising dates and after each one the guy would say you a great woman, just not the one for me. It’s you, not me. Rinse, wash, repeat.

That same day I snagged another interview for another job for the following week. Two interviews later I had the job. I told very few folks until I had signed and returned my offer letter. I’m very excited about both my new position and the company I work for. From the start the entire process felt very different. The recruiter assigned to me was awesome. She would see me before my interviews with the department, brief and de-brief me and answered any and all questions. She kept me updated at all stages of the process and is still my go-to support person even after I am hired. It’s a nice touch and really reflects the values and goals of the organization. I’m in a position that utilizes my skills and offers me lots of opportunities for growth and promotion. Benefits are awesome and I’m making more than I was in CA, in fact it’s the highest salary I’ve ever had. The job hunt is over and I can finally settle in. Thanks Blogland for your support.
